During my one and only trip to San Diego Comic Con in 2006, I had the great pleasure of meeting Amanda during a signing. It was with that trip I officially started off Draw Me In, however I was finding it difficult to approach people with it. So many great opportunities were passed up, including this one. Oh, had I only knew ahead of time how much effort it would take to gain an audience with her a second time, flying halfway across the country was the easy way out.
I included Amanda in my first wave of artists I had sent out. I sent it care of DC Comics, which I now know better not to do. In October I tracked down Jimmy Palmiotti on the internet in an effort to reach Amanda, after a bit of back and forth with him he said he’d “forward my message”.
Come August the following year I wised up and sent her a letter c/o Image. I tried this once more in May 2008, and that’s when I got the e-mail!
She wrote that she would draw me in and also with the scene in mind, also draw my girlfriend as well. Something I didn’t mind at all, a nice touch.
Thank you Amanda Conner, for helping a fanboy out.
