Draw Me In - Seventh Blogiversary!

July 18, 2013

Every year when Comic-Con International happens, I am reminded that another year has passed since I started this website.

What started as a simple idea from a contest in a magazine, turned into a website followed by a trip to the biggest comic book convention in the country.... seven years have pasted since I started Draw Me In and it's been a fun ride so far. I've met some great people and have been incredibly lucky as a comic book "fanboy".

Looking back to my trip to SDCC in 2006, I loved how it was my first non local convention, and damn did it blow the doors off of that show. I managed to talk with a bunch of creators that have yet to make it out to the mid-west. But ever since I've been wanting to go to more "big" shows, but just have lacked the funding to do so. Hopefully someday I can fix that. Maybe take an extended comic-con/vacation with my wife to like, Seattle or Chicago, because there are certainly more creators I'd like to shake hands with and get autographs from.

I'm glad to have made my own personal mark on my hobby. So however much longer I continue to do this, I'd like to think that if I were to suddenly stop, I would be content to what all has happened.

Waiting in line to get into San Diego Comic Con International 2006.

Sneak Peek! Dream Thief #4 by Greg Smallwood!

July 15, 2013

Every now and then I get sent the preview panels of my future appearances by the artists who drew them. It's nice to see the original pencils (or in this case digital inks) done before it's colored and lettered.

Many thanks to Greg Smallwood for sending me these pages of Dream Thief #4 which should hit shelves in August! Look for Dream Thief #3 in finer comic book stores near you this Wednesday!

Chaos War Page!

July 13, 2013

Great ending to an already eventful week.

In today's mail I received a package that 1; had a cool Thor sketch on the envelope (but was mostly smudged by the USPS) 2; contained the page I was in of Chaos War #2 and 3; an awesome additional sketch by Khoi Pham!

Thanks Khoi!

41 Action News KSHB

July 12, 2013

Look ma, I'm on TV!

So... this was certainly unexpected. But I'll take it. John Batten from KSHB, the Kansas City NBC news station, came to my house for an interview on my campaign/website Draw Me In! I thought he did a really good job editing it all together, considering how nervous I was and I just wouldn't shut up about me and comic books!

I've posted the video up above and there's a nice write up posted on the KSHB 41 News site.

So now that I've gotten local press coverage in both the papers and on television this week, I feel like Steve Martin from The Jerk when the new phone book arrives. "I'm somebody now!" ... "Things are going to start happening to me now."

Gotta keep things going forward! Don't slow down now!

Leavenworth Times Article

July 9, 2013

Local boy does good!

Tim Linn, a reporter for my local paper the Leavenworth Times, contacted me a while back and asked to interview me about the site and my campaign. He interviewed me about a week ago and in today's paper, it saw print! And what a nice write up it was, front page and all! Thanks Tim for the great press and wonderful article!

Here's a link to the online version for the article. Below are scans of the paper itself... man I miss my big flat bed scanner...

'Watchmen' Writer David Hayter to Adapt 'The Sword' for Lakeshore

As reported on The Wrap.

I absolutely loved this series and it is primed for a movie. So this is great news! Production on the first installment of The Sword is slated to begin early 2014.

The Luna Brothers have made some great comics and after reading the first issue of The Sword, I knew I had to make an attempt for a cameo. Series artist Jonathan Luna kept me on edge but there I was in the final issue of the series.

I don't know if they're planning on one film or breaking it down into several. But I'm going to try to push for a reprisal of my cameo. Crossing over media, why not? New goal.
