Whoo hoo! Email: Jamal Igle!

The past weekend was the Wizard World convention in Chicago. Among the news stories to break (along with the sad news of Michael Turner passing) was a creative change on Supergirl. What really caught my eye was that the new artist was Jamal Igle, whom I had already contacted once the year before. So I thought I'd send him an e-mail in congratulations, and to just kinda... you know... put my name out there again.

Well it worked. Hours later he replied, "I'll see what I can do about slipping you into issue 34." Also I was thrilled to find out he had the site bookmarked from back when I originally contacted him. That's kinda neat.

Later that day he hits back with the question, "Do you have any pictures of yourself screaming at someone? I think I can get you in as an angry baseball fan."

Pins and needles.... I can't wait.

Thanks a million Jamal!

Whoo Hoo! E-mail: Amanda Conner!

Myself next to Amanda Conner in 2006 in San Diego!

The other day I got a great surprise which came in the form of an e-mail from artist Amanda Conner. For sometime now I've been trying to contact her for the campaign, and I was thrilled to see I had finally gotten through.

In her e-mail she says, "I've finally gotten a chance to draw you in!" and asks the question "How does your lady/girlfriend/fiance feel about being drawn in?"

How cool is that? I get to include my fiance Rachael in my fanboy quest to appear in comics.

Amanda then sets up the scene. "I need somebody to thump/whack/smack you in the back of the head for staring a bit too hard at Terra & Powergirl."

Sounds like a panel from the forthcoming (and long awaited) Terra mini-series. I can't wait to see that play out on paper. I'll have to buy the page for sure.

Thanks Amanda for contacting me and helping me get "Drawn In".

Artist Updates

There has been some news involving several "Draw Me In" artists. I thought I'd just take time to point them out.

Ryan Ottley, is celebrating the success of Invincible reaching issue #50. Although his art chores only began on issue #8, he'll reach is own personal 50 issue mark in no time. Same goes for Charlie Adlard, artist on The Walking Dead, which will be hitting issue #50 VERY soon. He didn't start his run until issue #7 of the series. However both artists have made the books their own, and I'm thrilled to have become (in my own small way) a part of both books universes. Congrats and continued success.

Now on to the dude who has been ever so gracious to me, both with his time and my little project here; Freddie Williams II. He had found a fan base with his run on Robin. Later he moved on to The Flash, in theory a higher profile project where he would work with Mark Waid. Well that was short lived, and now will find himself back on art chores with Robin, a move he says he's happy to make.

"I've really missed robin. I like being able to work on darker books. I am glad I took a shot at the flash and did have fun with it but Darker books are more of my alley."

I'm glad to have him back as well, because I didn't really follow Flash anyway. (I didn't like the direction it went.)

Jim Calafiore... Please Read This!

Jim, the guy on the far right sketching a most excellent
Aquaman drawing for me, circa 2006 San Diego Comic con!

Well, I got a hold (kinda) of Mike Norton this way. Can't hurt to try it again.

The other day I did e-mail Jim Calafiore, an artist I followed with his long outstanding run on Aquaman! He's been doing some Bat-stuff for DC here recently. As always, I'd love to be drawn in by my fan favorites.

Some Happenings

I've not heard anything new from the people I've tried to contact about a month or so ago. This campaign DOES take some time, which I guess waiting is the hardest part. Even after getting good news from a creator, in the comic book world it still then takes usually an additional three months or so to see print. So I've learned to just take it easy.... and wait.

A couple of days ago I did get two responses from past e-mails. The first was a comment from Green Arrow Black Canary artist Mike Norton. A few posts ago I dedicated one to him in an effort to gain an audience with him. I'm still trying get a hold of him in a since that I don't know if he's getting things from me on his end. I just got a comment left by him asking if I was trying to get a hold of him.

YES MIKE! Please e-mail me! I promise to stop bugging you!

Also on that day, I got a reply from Riley Rossmo. Earlier I'd sent him a fan drawing by Jeff Stewart of my scene he drew in Proof #7, slightly altered to reflect my love of DC Comics. In case you've not seen it, I posted it to the side.

Other than that, looks like I should try reaching out a bit more... both mail and e-mail. This down time really slows me down. I do have a few hopefuls/maybes out there. On the waiting list is David Finch, Steven Sadowski, and the Luna Brothers.
